Dalit Candles Pack of 4

Understated and timeless these beautiful candles will enhance any setting, and they smell wonderful right out of the box. When you've finished with the candle, allow the pot to return to the earth by putting it on the compost heap.

The Dalit people of India, also known as the untouchables are the poorest of the poor, forced to drink out of clay pots in order to show their separation from others. Yet they have turned this symbol of their outcast status on its head by making these simple and beautiful candles. Men make the pots while women are involved in the candle production which gives a good steady income ,and the project funds several schools for Dalit children who might otherwise have no chance of an education. This is the way the stigma and the cycle of poverty is broken.

Each candle has a burn time of 20 hours.
