Handmade paper roses burst from the background in these exquisite cards, handmade in a little fishing village in the Philippines.
Salay Handmade set out to improve the lives of the people in the town through well paid work and by encouraging a sense of pride in the community. One of their first goals was to improve the local area for agriculture by using an invasive weed which was collected and use to make paper. Having successfully fought this pest they now use a variety of different fibers to make paper, including pineapple and banana waste. Sustainability is definitely at the heart of what they do and we are awed by their ingenuity and their craftsmanship.
