This hand embroidered Splendid Peacock has been crafted by Afghan refugees living in Pakistan. Often associated with strength and divinity, the peacock lives in the wild in Pakistan and has been chosen by refugees as a symbol of their new home.
MADE51 is made possible by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the World Fair Trade Organisation. Making these decorations gives refugees a fair income as well as the chance to heal from trauma and build new lives. The designs reflect both their homeland and their new home, and keep cultural traditions alive.
