With a flower for a pedal, a leaf for a seat, and a basket overflowing with a huge bouquet, this little bike is utterly charming. Handmade in a little fishing village in the Philippines using pressed flowers on handmade paper.
Salay Handmade set out to improve the lives of the people in the town through well paid work and by encouraging a sense of pride in the community. One of their first goals was to improve the local area for agriculture by using an invasive weed which was collected and used to make paper.
Having successfully fought this pest they now use a variety of different fibres to make paper, including pineapple and banana waste. Sustainability is definitely at the heart of what they do and we are awed by their ingenuity and their craftsmanship.
