Ribbons of brass are interwoven to create these unusual earrings. Very light to wear, they catch the light as you move.
The Hope Jewellery project was set up to provide fairly paid part time work for women close to their homes in the shanty towns of Lima, Peru. Suitable part time work which allowed them to care for their families was hard to find and they often had to travel long distances to get to it.
At the start there were a handful of women who were skilled in crochet but were selling their products cheap in local markets. Just Trade worked with them to create new designs, giving them a whole new worldwide marketplace. A steady income, training and support has transformed these women's lives and those of their families - being able to pay for education has meant that some of their children are now at university. This is how the cycle of poverty is broken.
