Exciting news from Harrogate Fair Trade
We’re really pleased to share some exciting news with you.
Supported by David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, Harrogate Fair Trade and partners have secured £149,633. This funding was awarded by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority through the Vibrant and Sustainable HighStreets Fund.
This means we can begin planning a new, larger collaborative ethical shop in Harrogate town centre.
We are still at an early stage and haven’t secured premises yet. Our current shop remains open as usual, and we look forward to welcoming you. For many years, this small space has helped us sell fair trade products and share the stories behind them, and our next step is about building on that and creating more room for what we already do.
Our move will allow us to expand our range of fair trade products, introduce a refill and plastic free station as a new service, and create space for community activity, with room for local makers, charities and ethical businesses alongside talks, workshops and events.
We will also expand our supported placements, helping to build confidence, skills and pathways into employment. We’re developing this work with local partners including Harrogate Skills for Living, Zero Carbon Harrogate, Black and Green Consultancy, and the Co-operative Group in North Yorkshire.
We are also looking to welcome new Trustees with relevant skills to contribute to this next phase and help shape what comes next. If you are interested, or you know of someone who might be, we would be very pleased to hear from you.
After 37 years of Fair Trade in Harrogate, this feels like a natural next step, and we’ll share updates as plans develop. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Warm wishes, Harrogate Fair Trade
